A couple of weeks back Ryan and I went down to Brighton. I think we got the last fully sunny day of the year – the sky was shades of blue all day! As I write this, it’s still sunny outdoors, but tomorrow it will be October and summer will surely be ending soon. Brighton is such a great place for a day trip and I’m surprised it’s been over a year since I last went. Excellent food, cute shops, kitschy pier, endless sidestreets to explore and obviously: the beach!
I wore my mermaid bikini to Brighton… along with my grungiest shorts. They’re vintage eighties and Ryan actually said “if you’re blogging this, shouldn’t you change your shorts?” as they’re just so old and baggy. If I was the kind of person to plan an outfit in advance and make use of a location such as the sea, then you probably could have had some excellent photos. Instead please know that I was comfy enough to nap both on the train and the beach (!).
I think previously on this blog the only pictures featuring the sea have been the Indian Ocean, more familiar to me and a lot less… yellow? The sea was an eerie shade of greeny-yellow which I expect is due to sediment or something although the effect is quite other-worldly and strange.
Brighton is such a colourful and fancy-free place, effortlessly conjuring up the idea of holiday and excitement. I’m a huge fan of cheesy amusements like the kind on the pier. How hilariously depressing are the stuffed, noosed Mario and Luigi dolls? Or the carousel dotted with seagull shit? It’s all so quintessentially british seaside and I love it. We also bought endless snacks from Infinity Foods and tried VBites for lunch – excellent burgers!
