To October

Autumn is here!

I feel as though this is the time each yeah when I get reinvigorated and re-inspired. Perhaps it’s the pinch of the cold in the air, or the darker evenings, but there’s something about October and the promise of Autumn that makes me want to stay in and work. Summer this year seemed to be endless but the leaves are finally turning. It’s only been the last few days where the sunny evenings have been tinged with that famous London chill.

We’re in the final quarter of the year now. I spent a morning going through the year so far and generally taking stock. Autumn still bears the remnants of “back to school” for me. Maybe it’s because I teach and so my work is still in part governed by the school timetable, or maybe it’s because it’s only a couple of years since I left full time education. My body is still on autopilot and expecting lectures to start up again soon.

This Autumn feels already as though it’s going to be a massive slog, although after the fairly empty Summer I’ve had that’s no bad thing. For me it looks like equal amounts work and play. I have family engagements, two short trips (and possibly a third to Disneyland..?) but I also have lots of gigs, students with exams and a couple of big job applications which I’m hoping will all go well. Ryan and I are going to New York for Christmas which is going to be SO MUCH FUN, but also will need a fair amount of forward planning and budget co-ordinating if we’re going to make the most out of it. New York is one of my favourite places and showing Ryan around is going to be so amazing. I want to spend our anniversary in my favourite museum (the AMNH). Go to Coney Island and Central Park on Christmas Eve. Eat vegan donuts. Buy lots of floral vintage in Brooklyn. It’s going to be incredible! What does the rest of your 2016 look like?

  1. That’s amazing that you and Ryan are going to NYC on Christmas! And possibly Disneyland before (or after), I hope you do so! And yes, we are in the final part of the year… for me it feels like I am in 2017 already, just waiting for Christmas and new year’s parties and that’s it. But still, we have nearly 3 months that we can “solve” many things… I have a Music exam soon, and other things to take care, so this last trimester will be pretty hectic 🙂 Hope you have a nice week!

  2. Christmas in NYC sounds so dreamy! Oh gosh, I’m just trying to survive the rest of this semester. I’m excited for Fall Break next week 😛 -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

wow Christmas in NY that will be amazing!!! Fall is my favorite time of year because summers in TX are so brutal — I always want to take it slow and celebrate the season and then it’s always a crazy whirlwind of busyness and I miss enjoying the little things … I’m going to try to do better this year 🙂
