This year, I’ve blogged continually about my love for Finland! After visiting Helsinki earlier this year I’ve become a little bit (read: a lot) enamoured with Finland. The Scandinavians seem to get into the Christmas spirit a lot more naturally – especially the Finns. I don’t know whether Finns are better-prepared for the cold, or whether the native reindeer help?

No surprise that when I heard about a Finnish Christmas Market in London I was eager to go! Me and Ryan made the trek to Rotherhithe and the Finnish Church a few weeks back. The market was a wonderful mix of imported Finnish foods, traditional Christmas decorations and Finnish gifts. Aside from shopping, the upstairs of the church housed a cafe complete with Finnish baked goods (hello korvapuusti). Outside hosted an outdoor grill and hot food – we tried a pea soup! Some of my favourite Finnish design brands were represented in the shopping area. Seeing the Iittala and Marimekko goods brought back fond memories of my time visiting their flagship stores in Helsinki.

Moomins

I’m a big Moomins fan so I was also really taken with the wintry-themed Moomin items. Of course I wanted to bring a little bit of Finland home for the festive season! I’ve been craving lingonberry jam since we came back from Helsinki so bought a jar. We also picked up a couple of festive postcards which we’ve used to decorate our room. Moomin-wise, I held out – I bought so many Moomin things from Helsinki! I’m not co-ordinated enough to have a totally themed house, but I like a nod to my favourite things. I have a few festive Moomin items already from previous years as well. Stay tuned for a themed post coming your way next week…

Awww, the Moomins! <3 So, so cute and you're right, in certain European countries, they get the Christmas spirit just right and it always looks so much cosier over there too, especially in places that naturally get lots of snow (my dream – I love snow!). I love Christmas markets and when you get little seasonal touches like these they just make them all the more cosy. – Tasha

  2. Oh, Moomins, so sweet! I love Finnish Christmas market – when I lived in Germany, there was the usual German Christmas market, whicht lifted the Christmas spirit big time and then together, the Finnish corner, with the market… amazing! I guess they are a lot into Christmas because of Lapland, the home of Santa, Father Christmas? Don’t know! I love pea soup and loved all the pictures – the Christmassy mugs, all so beautiful and quite romantic! Hope you have a nice weekend!
