Today is the fourth anniversary of this very blog! I don’t think I’ve ever celebrated, or even acknowledged, blog birthdays before. The blog milestones (first viral post, getting my own domain name, going self-hosted, outing my blog to irl friends, coding this theme) don’t really align with a yearly anniversary – but then, that’s the same with real life and we all celebrate our birthdays just fine!
I started this blog with no real knowledge of the blog community. I didn’t read many blogs, I had no blogger friends and I thought the only types of blogs were fashion blogs. Early posts consisted of awkward photos of myself accompanied by brief, thrilling (not) paragraphs of what I’d been up to. Longterm readers may remember that truly gripping time.
After about a year I changed my tune and started writing about whatever I felt like. Over time things have gotten a little more structured. My output is more refined, my writing more focused and my photos are a lot, lot more interesting. At the end of my fourth year, I’m at a point where I’m fairly happy with this place. It’s brought me a lot of opportunities and introduced me to some of my best, best friends.
Sure, there are still things that bother me and that I’m trying to work on. For example, I have no idea how to promote the many posts I’m proud of, and finding the time to stick to a blog schedule can be difficult. Don’t get me started on the padding of the featured photos which annoys me SO MUCH! (Seriously, any coders throw me a bone please). But overall, I’d say this is a project I’m almost a little bit proud of. Let’s see what year 5 brings, shall we?
Thanks for reading! 🙂 X
